Susanna Reid and Ed Balls took a pause from the usual Good Morning Britain broadcasting on Wednesday to deliver some breaking news.

The dynamic duo interrupted their ITV morning programme to inform the nation that the UK inflation rate has dipped to 2 per cent.The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released figures on Wednesday showing the consumer prices index (CPI) rate for the year to May, marking a decrease from April's 2.3 per cent and hitting the Bank of England's target for the first time since July 2021.

Core inflation, which doesn't count food, energy, alcohol, and tobacco due to their price volatility, also slowed down to 3.5 per cent from 3.9 per cent, aligning with forecasts.

The most significant drops contributing to this decline were seen in the costs of food and soft drinks, recreation and culture, and furniture and household items.
