'God he's arrogant!' John Torode's wife Lisa gets candid about their awkward first meeting
express.co.ukMasterChef's John Torode, 56, and wife Lisa Faulkner, 49, admit it wasn’t love at first sight when they first met, as the latter thought he was “arrogant”.They were introduced on the set of This Morning in 1996 when Lisa was being interviewed and John was cooking in the kitchen.The actress said she had noticed his “lovely, dark curly hair”, but did not get the reaction she wanted when she went over to chat to him.The Holby City star explained to The Sunday Times: “I went over to see what he was cooking and said, ‘That looks delicious’."He replied, ‘Yup’, very brusquely.“No acknowledgment, he barely looked at me and I just thought, ‘God, he’s really arrogant’.”After the unfortunate meeting, the pair did not cross paths again for another 13 years.They were reunited when Lisa took part in Celebrity MasterChef in 2010, which she won.Lisa thought John was “still good looking”, but “still arrogant" while taking on the “culinary Simon Cowell role”, as his co-star Gregg Wallace was busy "cracking jokes".John, on the other hand, confessed he was “cowardly” at the start of their relationship.He explained that he was anxious to approach Lisa in case she turned him down, and that after separating from his first wife, he couldn't face another heartbreak.The chef explained: “I’d separated from my wife, which was awful, and I was reluctant to approach Lisa face to face as I didn’t fancy the prospect of her saying no.“So, I wrote her a letter.
