Ben Shephard has celebrated his close pal and Good Morning Britain co-star Kate Garraway as she's been nominated for an award.

Kate, 54, who has been documenting her husband Derek Draper's Covid-19 illness and recovery, is in the running to win Network Presenter of the Year after being nominated by the Royal Television Society.

Krishnan Guru-Murthy from Channel 4 News and Kirsty Wark from BBC Newsnight have also been named in the category. Speaking on the ITV show, Ben, 47, announced the news as he shared: "We are absolutely thrilled to bits that the RTS, the Royal Television Society, has nominated – and you'll be surprised and delighted like we all were – but for Network Presenter of the Year, the one and only Miss Kate Garraway!" Ben then interjected as he joked: "I don't think they have!" as Kate replied: "Is it like a participation award?" Her co-star continued: "It's the fact that you make it most days I think," as Kate carried on: "Well done for turning up and not getting fired so far for 20 years." Ben, who was recently left gobsmacked as a Tipping Point contestant made history, went on: "That was the only thing I ever got at school – my attendance record was better than anyone else's, I never got awards for anything else." "I was keen to be there most days because my mum didn't want me in the house," he then joked.
