A man who murdered his partner after returning home from watching football has been jailed for life. John Higgins admitted fatally attacking Amanda McAlear at her home in Glasgow on May 7, 2022.
The 64-year-old pleaded guilty to a charge of murder at the High Court in Glasgow on July 31, 2024, at the start of the trial against him.
The court heard how Higgins had attended a football match before going drinking in two pubs. He left the last bar at 5.20pm and was taken to Amanda’s house by taxi.
During the journey, Higgins said he was looking forward to ordering an Indian meal and watching football on television. Meanwhile, 50-year-old Amanda was visiting her elderly mother who lived near her Barmulloch home.
