A Scots bar has closed its doors for good just days after its workers went on strike. The 13th Note on King Street in Merchant City has appointed liquidators today after 21 years of trading, reportedly causing the loss of 18 jobs.

Workers at the business, that also operates as a gallery, music venue and vegan café, took action in the first hospitality strike in Scotland for 20 years.

They staged a 48-hour walkout on Friday July 14 over claims the owner failed to deal with pay and health and safety concerns.Staff claimed they were often forced to work through their breaks and that issues such as faulty kitchen equipment, a mice infestation and black mould led them to downing tools.

They were also dissatisfied with "poverty pay" and unreliable contracts.Owner Jacqueline Fennessy said she was "devastated" but there had been a "dramatic reduction in revenue" that had forced the closure due to the strike action.
