A young girl has been left unable to walk or talk after a lorry ploughed into the back of a broken down car. A family-of-four were left seriously injured when the HGV hit their Nissan X-Trail on the hard shoulder of the M42 in Warwickshire on April 28, 2022.Warwick Crown Court heard that a warning light appeared on the vehicle's dashboard and they pulled off to the side of the road between junctions eight and nine shortly before midnight.
Lorry driver, Dominic Nicholls, drifted into the hard shoulder "for reasons unknown" and hit the Nissan at 55mph.The family, two parents and their eight-year-old daughter and five-year-old son, did not have time to exit the vehicle before the truck hit the SUV.
The Nissan was left in a mangled heap at the side of the road and the girl will need a carer for the rest of her life, Stoke-On-Trent Live reports.The girl, who is now 10 years old, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
She pulled through but will need lifelong care. She will have to use a wheelchair and is no longer able to think, walk, or talk.
