Gio fever is sweeping Turkey after the former Rangers boss led Besiktas to an historic 5-0 Super Cup win over Galatasaray - and got his new club excited about things to come.
The Dutchman had been out of work since leaving Ibrox in 2022 but decided on a move to Turkey earlier this summer. He took over a Besiktas team at a low ebb, having finished sixth in the Super Lig last season, but it wasn't all bad as they won the domestic cup - setting up a Super Cup showdown with bitter rivals Galatasaray.
It was a stormy one as ever, Ciro Immobile opening the scoring for Besiktas within a minute of a cagey first 45. But it was a second half rout that wrote Van Bronckhorst's name into history.
Jonas Svensson added a second before Immobile made it three from the penalty spot, and after Galatasaray began to lose the head - Victor Nelsson seeing read on 87 minutes - they added two more late on to make it a fantastic five. The win means Gio became the first foreign coach to win the Super Cup in charge of Besiktas since Jean Tigana in 2006.
