An Ayrshire urban explorer has told of the bizarre moment they were given one last look at their old secondary school before its scheduled demolition.The explorer, part of group Urbex Outlaws, normally sneaks into abandoned buildings that have lain derelict for years.But on a rare occasion, they were granted permission to enter their told stomping ground for a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The former Carrick Academy pupil was given the green light to head into the historic Maybole school which served the community since 1926 all the way up until its closure in August.The explorer, who did not wish to be named, told Ayrshire Live: “We were really keen on visiting Carrick Academy before it was demolished, we got permission to go in, film and take pictures.“It was a real trip down memory lane for me.
I went to school there."Eerie pictures shown on Ayrshire Live last week show how ghost classrooms are frozen in time, with teacher notes still on whiteboards and chairs lined up.In other pictures science labs were still fully kitted out with labelled jars on tables.
A look into kitchen also revealed a behind the scenes look at where dinner ladies would have worked.The explorer added: “I can’t really explain the feeling.
