For the past eight years, Segal had starred in ABC's 1980s sitcom The Goldbergs, playing Albert "Pops" Solomon since 2013. His last episode filmed before his death is set to air 7 April, with the show expected to pay an on-air tribute to the series regular.
He was also well known for his other television work in Just Shoot Me!, where he played Jack Gallo throughout his six years on the show.
Segal won two Golden Globe Awards for his performances on-screen, including Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy in 1974 for his performance in A Touch of Class.
