George R. R. Martin praises new ‘Game Of Thrones’ spin-off – but says it “may not satisfy” if you’re just looking for action

Game Of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has given an update on its new television spin-off, A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms. While he has said he “loved” the show, he warned it is not action-packed.Set 100 years before Game of Thrones, it follows the adventures of a young knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Irish actor Peter Claffey), and his squire, Egg (child star Dexter Sol Ansell).

It is set to air on HBO and Max later this year in the US, and Sky Atlantic in the UK.Writing about the season on his personal blog, he revealed: “It’s done.

Ira [Parker, executive producer] and his team wrapped the first season months ago, and moved right on to post production. I’ve seen all six episodes now (the last two in rough cuts, admittedly), and I loved them.”He continued: “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms is an adaptation of The Hedge Knight, the first of the novellas I wrote about (the characters).

It’s as faithful as adaptation as a reasonable man could hope for (and you all know how incredibly reasonable I am on that particular subject).”He did warn, however, that the tone would be different to what audiences expect. “Viewers who are looking for action, and more action, and only action… well, this one may not satisfy you,” he wrote. “There’s a huge fight scene here, as exciting as anyone could ask for, but there are no dragons this time around, no huge battles, no white walkers… this is a character piece, and its focus is on duty and honor, on chivalry and all it means.”He also gave further hints as to when it would air, writing: “The series will make its debut late this year, I am now told.
