Gary Oldman Returning to London Stage in Samuel Beckett’s ‘Krapp’s Last Tape’
variety.comEllise Shafer Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman is returning to the stage after nearly four decades to star in a new production of Samuel Beckett’s “Krapp’s Last Tape” at London’s York Theatre Royal.
Oldman began his career at the York Theatre Royal in 1979 with a production of Ben Travers’ “Thark.” He was also a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company, with which he performed “Romeo and Juliet” and “Hamlet,” and went on to have roles in London productions of “Cabaret,” “Entertaining Mr.
Sloane” and more. His last theater credit was the 1987 satire “Serious Money” at the London Royal Court. “Krapp’s Last Tape” will begin previews on April 14, and run through May 17.
The one-act play by the famed Irish writer follows a man named Krapp who, each year on his birthday, records a new tape reflecting on the past year. “On his 69th birthday, Krapp, now a lonely man, is ready with a bottle of wine, a banana and his tape recorder.
