Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.
In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Gary Neville has question marks over whether Mason Mount will tactically fit into Manchester United's midfield. Erik ten Hag's number one target is on his way to Old Trafford after United agreed a £60million package with Chelsea for the Englishman.
After drawn-out negotiations, United finally have their first summer signing. Mount has been earmarked to play next to Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in Ten Hag's 4-2-3-1 system.
The 24-year-old's work rate off the ball is seen as a major factor that has convinced Ten Hag he can play as a number eight.
However, Neville has doubts over Mount's suitability for that role, alongside Fernandes. Indeed he thought pushing the boat out for Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice would have made more sense.
