Match of the Day host Gary Lineker has mocked Manchester United after the BBC were guilty of accidentally describing the club as being 'rubbish' during a live broadcast on Tuesday.

Eagle-eyed viewers happened to notice that the BBC News live news ticker at the bottom of your TV screen displayed the text: 'Manchester United are rubbish'.

Unsurprisingly, the gaffe soon gained traction on social media, with people stunned by the magnitude of the error. It forced the BBC into quickly issuing an apology, with presenter Annita McVeigh confirming that it had been accidentally published.

She confirmed it was as a result of someone learning the ropes of the live news ticker and typing random words.
