Barry Ferguson has accused Gareth Southgate of slapping Scottish football in the face by snubbing Jack Butland from England’s latest squad.Rangers No.1 Butland had been widely expected to earn an international recall on Thursday ahead of this summer’s Euros after rediscovering his top form in eight months at Ibrox.
But, instead, Southgate selected second choice Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone of Crystal Palace as understudies to first pick Jordan Pickford.
And former Rangers and Scotland skipper Ferguson is convinced Southgate has overlooked the best man for the job because Butland is playing his club football north of the border.He said: “I was watching the announcement and I couldn’t believe it - and I’m not just saying this because he’s the Rangers goalkeeper.
I honestly don’t know what to say. The keepers that were picked in front of him, yes, they’re good keepers. But are they better than Jack Butland?
