Gardeners' World star Monty Don has opened up about the poignant reasons behind his paternal missteps. Reflecting on the contrast between his own upbringing and his approach to fatherhood, the 69-year-old shared that his "pretty distant" relationship with his father influenced his desire for a closer bond with his children.

Despite his best intentions, Monty acknowledged the challenges he faced, attributing some of his errors to his work-centric lifestyle.

I think because my own relationship with my father was pretty distant and straight I both wanted it to be closer and more informal, but I wasn't terribly good. "I had to learn how to be a father and I made mistakes and my guess is every parent makes mistakes.
