A gambler who tried to kill his wife in a violent attack as she worked from has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in jail. Leslie Marshall, stabbed his wife Amanda in the neck as she sat at her desk the morning after she asked to end their marriage of more than 25 years following a row about his financial problems.
The 51-year-old, who worked as a chef for a care company, had just dropped off his twins at school when he carried out the vicious attack on Amanda, wounding her “one or two centimetres” away from her heart.
The terrified mum only survived the ordeal by frantically fighting with her husband before escaping through the back garden and climbing over the fence.
