Pellegrini rued their wastefulness and it was similar for Philippe Clement after the Belgian watched his side pass up a string of gilt-edged chances in their 1-0 win over Hearts.
Pellegrini said: "If Villanovense had qualified, it would have been a fair result. They did very well. I understand the suffering of their captain and the coaching staff.
