Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter After much speculation, the Cannes Film Festival has officially revealed that “Furiosa” will world premiere on the Croisette in 2024.

The prequel will screen out of competition on May 15 at the Grand Theatre Lumière at le Palais des Festivals. The premiere comes nine years after director George Miller unveiled “Mad Max: Fury Road” at the festival in 2015.

Following its Cannes debut, “Fury Road” became a critical and commercial hit and has been widely regarded as one of the greatest action films in history.

It scored $380.4 million at the worldwide box office and 10 Oscar nominations. (However, “Mad Max: Fury Road” cost more than $150 million, so it just barely turned a profit.) “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa, the role originated by Charlize Theron in “Fury Road,” and Chris Hemsworth as the villainous Warlord Dementus.
