Fugitive caught by police at Manchester Airport is charged with murder

A fugitive who was caught at Manchester Airport coming back from South America has been charged with murder.John Belfield was wanted in connection with the death of Thomas Campbell who was robbed and tortured to death by a gang of men in 2022.Three people have already been jailed for the crime and Greater Manchester Police had pushed for the extradition of John Belfield from Suriname, a small country on the northeastern coast of South America but it was not successful, reports MEN.Mr Campbell, 38-year-old was robbed and 'tortured to death' in his own home in Mossley, Tameside, after being ambushed by three men.

Three people including Thomas's ex-wife Coleen Campbell were caged last year for their roles in Thomas's death.In a statement this evening Greater Manchester Police said: "John Belfield (13/04/1994) of no fixed abode has been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, manslaughter, conspiracy to rob and conspiracy to supply class A drugs. "He has been remanded into custody and will appear before a Magistrate at a later date."Belfield was circulated as wanted by GMP following an investigation into the death of Thomas Campbell, 38.

He was found dead at his home address on Riverside in Mossley at around 10.30am on Sunday 3 July 2022."Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene and a murder investigation was quickly launched.
