Frustrations over the opening hours of Johnstone Community Sports Hub’s swimming pool have been reiterated. Councillor Iain McMillan, Labour group leader, has been left puzzled by the policy to shut the facility’s doors between 11am and 3pm on weekdays.
The veteran politician, a keen swimmer himself, said he doesn’t “understand” the situation – particularly during school holidays, including the recent October week, when young people are looking for things to do.Councillor McMillan, who represents Johnstone South and Elderslie, reflecting on the October break said: “It’s a shame that the pool is lying empty.
I’ve just gone past it and you look at the day it is with the weather, the kids will be bored and they will be in the house and there would have been an opportunity there to go swimming and it’s been denied.“It’s shut from 11am until 3pm, Monday to Friday.
That’s 20 hours a week which is quite a lot. I don’t understand it.”The pool is open 7am until 11am and 3pm until 9pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 7am until 11am and 3pm until 8pm on Tuesday and Thursday, and 9am until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, according to OneRen’s website.
