From archery to fine dining: I lived like the royals for a weekend and I loved it

I've never seen myself as particularly upper-class. Most of my wardrobe is secondhand, my dining etiquette could use some work, and while I did take a gap year, it was spent labouring 50 hours a week in the local café, not gallivanting around Africa.

However, last weekend, I had the opportunity to experience a taste of the high life when I was invited to stay at Warner's latest establishment, The Runnymede on Thames, near Windsor.

This recently refurbished hotel is nestled on the riverbank, roughly two hours from central London by train. The hotel primarily attracts an older clientele, so when my partner and I arrived on Friday morning, our entrance felt somewhat like a scene from an old Western film.

I might have been imagining things, but it seemed as if the room fell silent. I'm pretty sure I even spotted a tumbleweed roll past us as the room full of retirees gawked at us.
