A popular Pret café in Manchester city centre will be giving away hundreds of free croissants later this week - after it was revealed to be one of the most popular spots in the country for the baked treat.

On Thursday (January 30), the Pret coffee shop on Cross Street will celebrate National Croissant Day by giving away 300 free croissants with every coffee purchase.

And it will be the only store in the city-borough giving out the freebies - with demand set to be high. According to Pret, the city centre café, just off Market Street, is the number one spot for croissants - beating out every other of their locations across the country when it comes to orders of the French pastry.

Why? Well, nobody really knows for sure but the stats back up the claims. The chain says a croissant is sold approximately every 30 seconds each morning at the Cross Street store - with no other Manchester store coming close to that.
