A push is being made to broaden access to free bus passes for those over 60. A new campaign has been launched to to offer free bus passes to all over-60s in England.
It comes as two MPs are putting pressure on the Government to review and potentially expand the benefits of the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).
Liberal Democrat MP Will Forster has urged the Department for Transport to reassess the ENCTS to include peak travel times. Responding to this, Transport Minister Simon Lightwood explained that while free off-peak bus travel is available for eligible individuals under the programme, local authorities have the discretion to offer more concessions if they wish.
Simultaneously, Sian Berry, Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion, has brought up the question of whether the department should revisit the eligibility guidelines for disabled people's bus passes.
