Freddie Flintoff's injuries as wife was told 'expect the worst' after Top Gear crash

Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff returned to our screens tonight for the first time since being seriously injured in a horrifying crash while filming an episode of Top Gear.In December 2022, the cricketer-turned-presenter had been driving an open-topped three-wheeled car at 130mph around the show's test track when it later flipped over in the icy conditions.

With no airbag in the vehicle, his face was dragged along the tarmac leaving him with horrific facial scars as well as several broken ribs.Flintoff had to then wait 45 minutes for an air ambulance to take him to hospital where he was treated for his multiple injuries.

It was reported by the Daily Mail that he underwent four hours on the operating table as surgeons battled to fix the injuries to his face.Heartbreakingly, the cricket legend's wife Rachael rushed to the hospital in Surrey from their home in Cheshire to be told the true extent of his injuries and to "expect the worst".

His teenage son Corey later admitted he was "lucky to be alive" following the terrifying ordeal.While he survived, Flintoff was left with large scars from the incident and has suffered psychologically ever since, admitting that he has struggled with anxiety, nightmares and flashbacks since the crash.Now 46, he quit the BBC show soon after the incident and came to an agreement with the broadcaster for a multi-million pound settlement.
