Police have launched a frantic search for a hillwalker who never returned home from a hike. John Alexander Gardiner, 32, was last seen in the mountains to the north east of Blair Atholl, Perthshire, at around 7.30pm on Saturday.The keen climber had scaled after having climbed Carn Nan Gabhar, one of three Munros part of the Beinn a' Ghlò mountain.
John is described as being around 5ft 10in in height, with curly dark hair and a beard.When last seen he was wearing red jogging bottoms, red trainers, a black and grey Super Dry puffer jacket, a grey and orange rain jacket, a green beanie hat and green gloves.
He also has a second grey pair of jogging bottoms with him. Cops have launched an appeal to try and trace him. They have urged anyone with any information to come forward and have urged locals to check outbuildings in case the hiker is using them for shelter from the elements.
Sergeant James Longden said: “John did not return as planned from a walk and extensive search activity is now ongoing to locate him.
