Former St Johnstone striker to join East Kilbride in January

Mick Kennedy has revealed East Kilbride have agreed a deal to sign former St Johnstone and Edinburgh City forward John Robertson in January.The 22-year-old has been training with the Lowland League leaders for the past fortnight, following his release from Northern Irish Premiership side Linfield in October, and he will officially become a Kilby player in the new year.Robertson started his career at Saints, making seven appearances in the Premiership as a teenager, before loan moves to Forfar and Cove Rangers.He then joined Edinburgh in 2021 where he netted 20 goals in 60 appearances.A move to Linfield followed last season but it didn’t work out for Robertson under gaffer and ex-Rangers striker David Healy.Now Kilby have come calling and boss Kennedy is delighted to have agreed terms with the player.He said: “John will bring real quality.

He is a great talent.“He had a fantastic spell at City and scored a lot of goals. He gives us a different dynamic up the top end of the pitch.“Even although we’ve scored a lot of goals, if you look at the ratio of opportunities created and chances taken, it is astonishing the amount of opportunities we don’t convert.“We need to be more clinical at the top end of the pitch, so John will help with that.“He’ll keep training with us for now until the deal has been ratified and, once January comes, he will be ready to go.”Meanwhile, Kennedy admits he was pleased to be sidelined at the weekend after snow postponed their league trip to Broomhill.EK are looking to bounce back from their 4-2 defeat at home to Hearts last month – which inflicted their first league defeat of the season – when they host Gala Fairydean Rovers this Saturday.Kennedy added: “With the style of football we play and the
