East Kilbride Thistle fend off illness and BSC Glasgow to end year on high note

Aaron Connolly felt his illness-hit East Kilbride Thistle side could have taken more than a point from their clash with BSC Glasgow on Saturday.But he admits he was happy to take something after he had to field a depleted team at the Showpark, including bringing himself out of retirement to sit on the bench as cover.The Jags brought the curtain down on 2023 with a battling 1-1 draw, as Jamie Scullion’s second half strike cancelled out a first-half opener from the visitors.It could have been so different had Michael Blues not battered the post from close range in the dying minutes.However, with a host of players missing, Connolly admitted he will take the point that keeps Thistle fourth in the West of Scotland Fourth Division heading into the Christmas break.He said: “There is a tinge of disappointment that we drew the game because we were the width of a post away from winning it with a minute to go, in what would have been a big victory for us.“I think everyone in the ground, as the ball was cut across the box, thought we were going to do it but, unfortunately, we’ve hit the post.“BSC are a good side who will cause problems for a lot of teams at the top end of the table, so it would have been a big result.“The positives for us are that we got something after going into the game missing 11 players.“There were some big players missing in there as well, with Adam Edgar being out with illness and Ally McDonald picking up an injury.“We had five down all week with illness, a couple of whom sat on the bench.

It was very much a case of being down to the bare bones – I was even on the bench so that is testament to the situation we were in.“To get out of the game with a point is far better than nothing.
