Former Renfrewshire councillor sadly passes away following period of illness

A former Labour councillor has passed away following a “period of illness.”Jim Sheridan was a passionate councillor who was well known within the area for his dedication.He has sadly died aged 69.In an email issued to local councillors the chief executive of Renfrewshire Council informed Jim’s former colleagues of his passing. Alan Russel wrote: “I am very sorry to share the sad news that our former councillor and colleague Jim Sheridan has passed away following a period of illness.“I know you will want to join me in offering our sincere condolences to Jim’s family at this very sad and difficult time.“Jim was a true family man and for many years was dedicated to championing Renfrewshire as an MP, a local councillor, and latterly as Deputy Leader for Renfrewshire Labour.“Our thoughts are with Jim’s wife Jean, his family and friends, and all those who worked closely with him at the council.”Jim was MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, formerly called Renfrewshire West, from 2001 to 2015.He first served on Renfrewshire Council in 1999, representing the old Erskine Central ward.Five years ago, he won the Labour ticket for Houston, Crosslee and Linwood.Before entering politics he worked in shipyards from 1970 to 1978, then as a printer for the Paisley Daily Express from 1978 to 1984.Jim retired from the Labour party in March after 40 years with the group Download the FREE Renfrewshire Live app now for all the latest news, features and
