Former Stockport council leader Elise Wilson has announced she will not be standing for re-election next year. Coun Wilson, who still heads up the Labour group, plans to step down in May after completing nine years at the town hall - including three as leader of the council.
The Davenport and Cale Green member was first elected in 2014 and took over from Alex Ganotis as town hall boss when he stepped down in 2019.
She remained at the helm during the Covid pandemic and ensured Labour kept its grip on the town hall following the 2021 local elections.
Despite the Lib Dems emerging as the largest group, a majority of councillors voted not to bring her term to a premature end.
