Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Former Cinecittà Studios CEO Nicola Maccanico has been appointed to the newly created role of CEO of Fremantle Italy Group.
Maccanico, who is a former Warner Bros. and Sky Italia senior exec, had been spearheading the radical overhaul of Cinecittà when he stepped last June down, after a three-year stint, when Italy’s right wing government decided to change the studios’ management team.
He had been instrumental to relaunching the iconic filming facilities that last year lured big shoots such as Roland Emmerich’s gladiator series “Those About to Die” starring Anthony Hopkins and Netflix’s period soap “The Decameron.” Maccanico will now oversee Fremantle Italy’s wide-ranging Italian operations that comprise labels Wildside, The Apartment Pictures, Lux Vide and Fremantle Italy.
Their respective CEO’s Sonia Rovai, Annamaria Morelli, Luca Bernabei, and Marco Tombolini will report to him. Maccanico will also join Fremantle’s gobal leadership team, according to a statement.
