Airdrieonians have strengthened their squad ahead of today's big Championship opener away to Dunfermline, with the capture of former Aberdeen defender Mason Hanock. The 20-year-old played four times for the Dons last season in the League Cup group stages before spending the first part of the season on loan at Arbroath, where he suffered a knee injury that kept him out for the rest of the campaign. And Diamonds player-boss Rhys McCabe is delighted to get the Englishman on board after he was released from Pittodrie. He told the club website: "Mason is one that we’ve kept tabs on - and tried to keep it as quiet as possible!“He’s very versatile and has a good pedigree.
He’s comfortable on the ball, a very technical left-sided player.“He’s young and hungry to improve, and we’re delighted to get him in - he’ll be a good addition.”Hanock started his career at Fulham and has also had spells at Oxford United, Woking and Stirling Albion. He said: “It’s a new challenge, and I’m really looking forward to it.“I’m a left-sided centre-half and I can also play left-back.
I like getting the ball down and playing, but I also feel like I do the ugly side well.“I’d describe myself as a modern-day centre-half!”Hancock could make his debut this afternoon when the Diamonds get their Championship campaign underway at East End Park.Kick-off is 3pm and Lanarkshire Live Sport will be there to bring you all the reaction from Airdrie's long-awaited return to the second tier.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
