Foreign Office issues Spain travel warning as staff strike at holiday hotspots

Anyone heading off on holiday to Spain anytime soon has been warned that strike action may impact their travel plans.A fresh update from the Foreign Office has advised travellers to check if there is any industrial action happening wherever they're heading, and try to plan accordingly to avoid any complications.Planned strike action is set to take place in Alicante airport until the beginning of next year, whilst public sector workers in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura have also been taking part in mass walkouts with more on the way.The new update which was posted on the Foreign Office website reads: "Check with your airline, tour operator or transport company whether there is any planned strike action which might disrupt your journey."Anyone that is flying to Alicante - one of Europe's biggest travel hubs - has also been warned by Jet2 that industrial action amongst Ground Handlers will be taking place all the way until early 2024.Having kicked off at the start of September, the remaining strike dates are:These strikes are expected to last for one hour in the morning and then another hour in the evening.

In an update to customers, Jet2 said: "Please ensure you allow plenty of time to pass through the airport. All our flights are due to operate at the scheduled time of departure."As well as this, industrial action has been taking place across several days this month in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura - all of which are popular holiday hotspots this time of year.

The road transport strikes, which began on October 2, will continue for October 21, 23, 25 and 28, ending at midnight that night.
