Joe Otterson TV Reporter The “For All Mankind” spinoff has found its first cast member. Variety has learned that Rhys Ifans has been cast in the upcoming Apple TV+ drama series, which is titled “Star City.” “Star City” was originally announced in April 2024 alongside the news that “For All Mankind” would be back for a fifth season.

As previously reported, the series will tell the story the alternative history of the space race like “For All Mankind,” but this time from the Soviet Union perspective.

The official description for the show describes it as “a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race – when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.

But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.” Ifans will star as the Chief Designer, who is described as “the driving force behind the Soviet Space program.” Ifans currently stars in the hit HBO series “House of the Dragon” in the role of Otto Hightower.
