Transitioning into menopause can be a challenging time, and many women experience uncomfortable symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, fatigue and anxiety.
But a recent study, published in the journal Menopause, has revealed that giving a foot massage to a postmenopausal woman can improve her sleep quality and reduce some of the most persistent symptoms.
Researchers from the North American Menopause Society (NAMS) found that a foot massage can increase a woman’s average daily sleep duration by as much as one hour every night - while also reducing insomnia and anxiety.
Dr. Stephanie Faubion, medical director at NAMS, said: “Sleep disturbances, fatigue and anxiety symptoms are common during menopause. “This small study in Turkish women shows how a simple, inexpensive intervention such as foot massage can improve these bothersome symptoms in postmenopausal women.
