Flights grounded at Scots airport as cops probe 'threatening communication'

Flights were temporarily grounded at a Scots airport this morning as police investigated a report of "threatening communication".Staff at Kirkwall Airport in Orkney received the malicious message on the morning of Saturday, January 4.Police were alerted to the incident at around 10.50am, with disruption to flights as officers investigated.

Following their enquiries, it was decided there was no evidence to suggest a legitimate threat.The airport has since fully reopened, with investigations ongoing.

Passengers were made aware there may be some further delays, and have been advised to contact their airlines for updates. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.50am today, Saturday, 4 January 2025, police were made aware of a threatening communication made to Kirkwall Airport."At this time there is no evidence to suggest the threat was credible.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing.”A spokesperson for Highlands and Islands Airports Limited, which operates Kirkwall Airport, said: "Flights at Kirkwall Airport are currently disrupted due to an ongoing incident.
