Five people rushed to hospital following early morning fire in Edinburgh

Five people have been rushed to hospital following an early morning fire in Edinburgh. Emergency services raced to a building on Leith Walk at around 2.35am on Wednesday, June 15.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) dispatched four appliances to the scene along with a height appliance. Five casualties were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary to be treated for smoke inhalation while three others were treated at the scene.

A dog was also rescued from the blaze and required oxygen and further medical treatment, Edinburgh Live reports. Four properties were also provided with survival guidance.The fire was extinguished using two high pressure hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus.One eyewitness at the scene shared footage from the tramworks on Leith Walk, with what appeared to be crews surrounding Robbie's pub on the corner of Iona Street, although it is yet to be confirmed where the fire originated from.Although no flames are visible from the footage, several crews, as well as fire engines, can be seen in the area, with multiple people standing outside the property.A cordon was also placed around the scene.An SFRS spokesperson said: "We received a call at 02:35 to reports of a dwelling alight with persons reported on Leith Walk, Edinburgh."Crews from McDonald Road and Tollcross attended.
