Five men plotted to rob an elderly businessman to steal a 'huge' amount of cash during a raid by fake police, prosecutors allege.
The alleged victim was a 'very wealthy' retired director of a family firm of butchers, aged in his 80s. Prosecutors say he was seen as a 'soft target' for the alleged robbers, who are claimed to have believed a 'huge sum of cash' would be at his home or business.
The alleged plot was discovered by police after covert listening devices were installed at South Manchester Plastics, a business on an industrial yard in Openshaw.
Prosecutors claim it was a 'front for criminality'. Manchester's courts are some of the busiest in the country with a vast array of cases heard every week.
