A mum who died after being hit by a car in Bellshill has been named by police as Clare Ritchie.Emergency services raced to the incident on the North Lanarkshire town's Crossgates after receiving reports of a collision at 9.30pm on Friday.
Crews attended but Clare, 41, who was a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.The driver of a silver Ford Fiesta, a 36-year-old man, was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and later released pending further enquiries.There are not believed to be any other injuries.Clare's heartbroken family remembered her as being a "loving mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend".In a statement released through Police Scotland, they said: “Clare was a loving mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend.
The tragedy that happened on Friday has left us all devastated. She will be dearly missed, but we all promise to make her proud and keep her memory alive."Police say inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.Sergeant Andrew Coutts said: “Our thoughts remain with Clare’s family.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. We are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
