Firefighters battle through the night to douse blaze at Perth car dealership

Firefighters battled through the night to douse a fire that broke out at a Perth car dealership.Six fire appliances rushed to Cameron Motors Volkswagen in response to reports at around 1am on Thursday morning.The inferno on Dunkeld Road was witnessed by a number of local residents, who took video footage and pictures as smoke billowed out from a roof.Dunkeld Road was closed between Gowans Terrace and Bute Drive as fire crews attempted to tame the flames.The route reopened at around 8.20am, however two appliances remained on scene yesterday to damp down any remaining hotspots.No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is not yet unknown.The dealership was closed yesterday with management working on “contingency plans” for its customers.A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 1.06am on Thursday, October 12 to reports of a fire within a commercial premises in Perth.“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances to the city’s Dunkeld Road, where firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.“As of 11am on Thursday, October 12, two appliances remain on scene with crews working to dampen down remaining hotspots.’’A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 1.25am on Thursday, October 12, police were called to a report of a fire at a car garage on Dunkeld Road, Perth.“Officers are in attendance, working with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.”A statement from Cameron Motors said: “Unfortunately, the premises are closed today due to a fire in the workshop and parts area.“Please watch Facebook for updates and we would like to thank the fire brigade and police for their help this morning.“We are making contingency plans to look after our customers.“Thank you for your support and
