Fire safety warning issued following number of deliberate blazes at Paisley beauty spot

Fire chiefs have issued a safety warning following a number of “dangerous” blazes at a Paisley beauty spot in recent weeks.The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been called out to Gleniffer Braes multiple times following reports of youths setting fires in the area.Firefighters were sent to the area twice within just one week to extinguish flames after fallen trees and grass were set alight.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

The first incident took place on Saturday, April 2, when a large area of grass was found on fire near to Robertson Car Park.The next weekend on Saturday night, another fire was set in the area, with photos of the aftermath showing large piles or charred trees.The deliberate fires - which are being thought to have been lit by groups of teens in the area - have been slammed by Paisley Southwest councillor Stephen Burns as “dangerous and irresponsible”.Renfrewshire fire chiefs are also calling on parents and guardians to make sure teens know the dangers and consequences of setting deliberate fires.Area Commander David McCarrey is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for East Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire and Inverclyde.He said: “We were alerted at 8.20pm on Saturday, April 9 to reports of a fire in the open at Glennifer Braes, Paisley.“Operations Control mobilised one fire engine and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting grass.“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.“Deliberate fires have the potential to cause injury and even death or cause devastating damage to our
