Kilmarnock Rugby Club applied for permission to erect security fencing just days before their stand was set on fire for the third time this year. The stand at the club’s Queen’s Drive ground was left with significant damage following the incident.Four teenagers aged between 12 and 14 have been reported to the Children’s Reporter in relation to the fire, which happened around 9.15pm on Sunday, July 30.The ground had also been vandalised twice in one week back in January. In its application, the club states that the fence would be installed from the corner of the clubhouse, around the main pitch. It would have a single access gate at the edge of the clubhouse and also on to the pitch, with double access gates allowing access to ground at the pitchside. The club had moved to improve security at the ground after similar incidents earlier in the year, and submitted a planning application for the 2.4m high metal fence around the main pitch on Monday, July 24.In its application the club details the specifications of the fence, stating: “V Mesh is infamous due to its aesthetically pleasing design that provides excellent security whilst also being a very cost-effective type of security fencing.“Each fencing bay makes use of four individual V bars which act as a deterrent for intruders climbing over due to the awkward downward angle, whilst also providing the fencing with added strength.”The application is currently in the consultation stage.
