Fire breaks out at Edinburgh flats as residents forced to flee homes in early hours

Emergency services raced to Bonnington Road after reports of the blaze at around 2.35am. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent seven fire engines, a height appliance and a command unit to the scene.
SFRS said all the residents were evacuated from the building.Two people suffered from slight smoke inhalation and the Scottish Ambulance Service also went to the scene.Great Junction Street, Edinburgh was closed between Leith Walk and Ferry Road while emergency services dealt with the incident.Police advised people to avoid the area.Terrifying images shared on social media show huge flames coming from the roof of the building above a row of shops in the area as smoke can be seen rising above nearby buildings.It is understood that some residents have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution, but it is unknown if there are any injuries as a result of the blaze at this time.A spokeswoman for the SFRS commented: "We were alerted to a fire within a building on Bonnington Road, Edinburgh, around 2:47am on Tuesday, November 15.
At the height of the fire, seven pump appliances, one height appliance and a command unit were mobilised."The fire is within a tenement building and a full evacuation is underway as the fire spread to the roof.
