Following the death aged 90 of renowned stage and screen actor Timothy West, best known for his role in Day of the Jackal, his son Samuel has revealed that Timothy's wife, Prunella Scales, star of Fawlty Towers, who is battling dementia, is "not well enough" to understand her husband's passing.
West, a devoted carer to Prunella throughout his life, passed away "peacefully in his sleep" on November 12.The much-loved actor's death was confirmed by his agent and his children, Samuel, Juliet, and Joseph, in a heartfelt statement: "After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening.
He was 90 years old." The statement also shared: "Tim was with friends and family at the end. He leaves his wife Prunella Scales, to whom he was married for 61 years, a sister, a daughter, two sons, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren." In addition, the family expressed gratitude towards the NHS staff for their exceptional care: "All of us will miss him terribly.
We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George's Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days." Speaking to The Sunday Times, Samuel confessed about his mother, now 92, "All I am going to say is she's not really well enough to take it all in.", reports the Mirror., as reported by the Express.The iconic pair first crossed paths in the early '60s on the set of the period drama She Died Young and quickly became notorious for their warm relationship.They would often indulge in doing crosswords and penning letters to one another during breaks from filming, with Timothy divulging these cherished moments last year on Loose Women.
