A family was outraged after sending their beloved puppy to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home only for him to be put down mere days later.

Grace McAllister, 24, and her parents made the tough decision to sign their German Shepherd Bear, aged one, over to the charity for re-homing after their landlord told them that they could no longer keep him.Grace fought to have her pet released back over to her after being told about the drastic decision five days in but was told that because she had signed him over she no longer had any say, she alleges. The Mirror reports that Battersea said employees had "concerns" about Bear's behaviour during his short time in the kennels and allegedly explained that did not have the time nor resources needed to train him properly to a satisfactory level.

It is understood that the pooch did not bite or attack people or animals while at the charity. "It’s not what I wanted to do in the slightest but I physically had no other option," Grace said, explaining why she gave him up."It’s gut-wrenching that I put my trust in a place that’s very well known and I have never heard a bad thing about Battersea until now."Within five days they’ve completely ruined a potential life.

Bear had another 10 years if not more, and they’ve taken that away from him."During a routine inspection, months after the family adopted Bear, their landlord decided he could no longer stay at the property, classing him as a security dog, despite him being a regular pet.
