Falkirk Tory councillor backs Liz Truss to 'hold Scottish Government to account'

A Conservative councillor in Falkirk says he is now backing Liz Truss to become the next Prime Minister because of her determination to "hold the Scottish Government to account".Councillor James Bundy says Liz Truss' plans to introduce parliamentary privilege to the Scottish Parliament will mean that MSPs will be able to ask more searching questions in the chamber as privilege gives them legal protection.And he believes he gave Liz Truss the idea for her plans after persuading her close supporter Iain Duncan Smith of the need for reform. This is not only to expose the failures of the SNP Government, but because of a deep belief that parliamentary scrutiny leads to better governance."As somebody who has worked for both an MP and an MSP, I've seen first-hand how MPs have more powers and freedoms to hold the Government to account compared to MSPs.

I find this unacceptable."Politicians in Scotland's two parliaments should have equal freedoms to hold Governments to account.

Liz Truss recognises this and in response has pledged to extend Parliamentary Privilege to the Scottish Parliament. This extension will grant MSPs the same legal protections currently enjoyed by MPs when speaking
