FA release statement confirming investigation after flare incidents in Man City vs Liverpool FC

The FA has confirmed an investigation will be opened after flares were used in the stands during Manchester City's Community Shield loss to Liverpool on Saturday evening.

The Reds ran out 3-1 winners on Saturday, with Darwin Nunez enjoying a superb debut as he won his side the penalty that led to them retaking the lead before notching late on to secure the victory.

City debutant Erling Haaland didn't enjoy quite such a successful afternoon, though Pep Guardiola was keen to stress after the match that he was not worried by his display. A statement from the FA read: "We are aware of incidents during the FA Community Shield where flares were used in the stands.
