Mercedes ace Hamilton collided with his Red Bull rival during the opening lap of the British Grand Prix last July as Verstappen went veering off the track at high speed at the infamous Copse corner.
And Hamilton subsequently went on to win the race. During an interview with Motorsport Talk's Ricardo Oliveira in Portuguese last November, Piquet suggested that Hamilton was at fault for the collision.
The video of the interview was then broadcast by Brazilian media, with the comments drawing attention on Monday evening. "The neguinho put the car in the wrong way and didn't let [the other driver swerve]," Piquet said. "The neguinho put the car in the wrong way on the corner - it's because you don't know the curve.
