“F*** me, we’re playing the Ritz" - Mercury Prize winners deliver spellbinding Manchester set

When Lily Fontaine was 14 years old, she went to The Ritz to watch The Kooks. Like many excited teenagers, she queued for an hour beforehand to get as close to the stage as possible.

That night in Manchester proved to be a formative experience, one that would go on to change her life. Several years on, Fontaine has just taken to the very same stage with her band, English Teacher.

It's the Leeds-based four piece's biggest show in Manchester to date, on the back of a whirlwind few months. There was a UK tour, including a show across the road at Gorilla, followed by several dates in the US. Then, in September, things went a bit crazy for English Teacher.
