Police have extra equipment to target drink and drug drivers on the region's roads during the party season. Greater Manchester Police have purchased 785 new breathalyser kits.
The Christmas and New Year period triggers a rise in drink and drug driving. In 2022, GMP arrested 536 people for drink and drug driving offences in December – the highest across the entire year, and 53% higher compared to the number of arrests in January.
Operation Limit - which takes place throughout December - has seen officers taking a proactive approach to catching drug and drink drivers.
The legal alcohol limit in England, Wales and Northern Ireland for driving is 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood or 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
