With the Paralympic Winter Games on the immediate horizon, this is an exciting time for Perth’s Sheila Swan. The British Curling Paralympic head coach is making final preparations ahead of the showpiece event in March. She will proudly travel to Beijing with Gregor Ewan, Hugh Nibloe, Meggan Dawson-Farrell, David Melrose and alternate Charlotte McKenna with silverware ambitions. And there is “unfinished business” to take care of following the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics back in 2018.“It’s a really exciting time,” smiled Sheila, a former world champion.“This is our one opportunity in four years where we have a mass audience and can really promote the sport.“I was involved in the Vancouver cycle as assistant coach and team manager.
I did a little bit of interim stuff in 2011, missed the Sochi cycle, then came back for Pyeongchang.“It feels a little bit like unfinished business.

They narrowly missed out on bronze in what was their final overseas tournament before the Games.Like all sports, the past couple of years has brought a differing competitive landscape due to the Covid-19 pandemic but Sheila is massively proud of how the squad has faced the challenge.“I have to say that the athletes have been really great,” Sheila explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.“I’m sure it’s been frustrating for them having to train and not really get competition out of it.
